Share capital given as 4 billion
dhs, par value is 1 dh each hence calculations of number of shares as
4,000,000,000.
At launch, DU shares were floated at 3+ dhs per share - up
until then, all IPOs had floated at par value which was restricted to
1 dh by regulations.
DU is 40% owned by the UAE Federal Government, 20% by the Mubadala Development Company (not Mubdala), 20% by TECOM Investment, and the remaining 20% by public shareholders.
09 January 2007 - EFG-Hermes report on DU says NEUTRAL
A comprehensive report published by EFG-Hermes rated DU stock as neutral with LT (Long Term) fair value given as AED 6.06, while DU share price was about 6.34 at the time of the report. They predict earnings of about AED 575m by 2010. With 4 billion shares outstanding that gives EPS of about 0.14 dhs and therefore PE of about 44 in 2010 based on current price. That's assuming DU takes up 33% market share for mobile phones and 15% for landlines by then. Probably a reasonable enough assumption, and if that holds steady while the population of the UAE grows at 10-15%, one could guess at similar numbers for earnings growth in following years.
That doesn't make the shares look particularly cheap right now, and we would hesitate to even say they were fairly priced unless there are some other opportunities for significant earnings growth in the medium term. Etisalat, the other telecommunication provider in the UAE, is currently undergoing regional expansion with purchases of licenses and stakes in other telecom operators. Perhaps Du will be considering the same?
One more question to consider is the start date of Du's telecom services. So far there have been several delays and the latest estimate is by the end of the first quarter 2007. Recent falls in the share price, albeit on lowish volumes, could indicate a degree of pessimism from the market about the launch date.
