Explanation of Record Dates, Entitlement Dates and last trading day
E&OE. This information is based on disclosures from ESCA, ADSM,
DFM and press releases. You should confirm dates with original source
before taking any action based on what is given here.
List will be updated
as information becomes available. Links are to forum topics or ShareWadi
summaries.
Last trading day for dividend entitlement is two trading
days before the Record
Date.
Sometimes company disclosures refer to Entitlement Date.
This usually means the last trading day for dividend entitlement. Check
the individual company links
for
more
information.
DFM (Dubai Financial Market) sometimes publishes on their
website a reminder for the Record Date, and for the last trading
day. ADSM (Abu
Dhabi Securities Market) doesn't appear to do this.
An example
Shusma Company PJSC says in a disclosure that Record Date is 07 March
2007.
Monday 05 March 2007 (two
days before Record Date) is the last trading day for dividend
entitlement.
Tuesday 06 March 2007 is ex-dividend day - shares bought do not
get any dividends.
Wednesday 07 March 2007 - shareholders on the company register
on this day (and before) will receive dividends.
This is because the day you buy a share is not the same day
you become the owner - registered ownership takes two trading days (T+2)
from the time you buy a share.
Weekends (Fridays and Saturdays) are not counted as trading days, so
if Record Date is a Sunday or Monday, the last trading day for dividend
entitlement will be a Wednesday or Thursday.
